After several years of suffering from extreme joint pain in my hands, in December of 2003, I received a diagnosis from a Rheumatologist of long term Osteoarthritis and the early stages of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I received treatment of heat therapy, cortisone injections and ingested 3200mg. of ibuprofen daily for a little over a year. With a growing concern of what the ibuprofen was doing to my stomach / liver / kidneys, and with virtually no relief from the pain.....I sought alternative treatment.
One day out of desperation, I opened up the yellow pages to the acupuncture listings. I shut my eyes and pointed my finger down on the page and came up with Acupuncture Associates of America and Dr. Lorella Tapia-Reyes. I made a call to Dr. Tapia-Reyes' office and spoke with Rosalie. She informed me that I needed a referral from my insurance company through my primary physician. After weeks of continuous "coaxing" of my insurance company by my primary physician, Rosalie and myself, I was given a referral to see Dr. Tapia-Reyes, whom I now fondly refer to as "my little miracle worker".
My first visit was probably close to two hours. Dr. Tapia-Reyes took all of my history, answered my many questions, explained her "plan of attack" and gave me my first treatment. She made me feel extremely comfortable and gave me hope that there was relief in sight. I started treatment with two sessions per week and began taking dietary supplements and erbs as recommended by Dr. Tapia-Reyes. I began to feel improvement within a few weeks and I am now, after approximately 8 months, on "maintenance treatments" every four to five weeks with continued use of the dietary supplement. Since I've been receiving treatments from Dr. Tapia-Reyes. I am 90% pain free and 100% ibuprofen free! I went from constant, excruciating pain in my hands with every task of every day, to basically no pain; barring a change in the weather or overworking them.
Acupuncture treatments also gave me relief from my allergy and menopause symptoms. Dr. Tapia-Reyes and acupuncture made a "believer" out of me! Acupuncture is an effective and multi-beneficial treatment. I look forward to and truly enjoy the treatments.
